We woke up on Friday 8th May 2015 to a majority Tory government hellbent on an ideologically-driven, economically destructive, socially apocalyptic austerity.

That very same day I wrote this song. All proceeds (if any!) go to our local foodbank.

when the banks and the bean men foreclose;
they'll mouth their regret
but they'll give you no cheque,
you're self-employed, so that's as far as it goes.

There's teardown consent
for your old tenement,
council houses all sold off in droves;

if you don't have your rent,

She was already poor,
but the back-breaking straw

now she has to withdraw

And the classrooms transmit
what the schoolbooks omit:

who is not worth one whit,
the future's ASBO - that's as far as he goes.

Well they put up their feet
when they take that green seat
in a club every millionaire knows;
then they send out a tweet
to the man on the street,
they a see a vote, but that's as far as it goes.

All the "I'm alright Jacks"
and the "I'll pay less tax",
and the ignorant led by the nose;
if the rest turn our backs
on each fall of the axe,
who'll say stop!- that's as far as it goes?
